Tyre Maintenance
PRESSURE
Check your tyre pressures weekly. Recommended tyre pressures are for
cold tyres. After driving for a while, your tyres heat up and the pressure
increases. Checking the pressure in a hot tyre will give you a higher.
reading than the same tyre when cold, and could result in you decreasing the
pressure to below the recommended reading. The correct tyre pressure will be
shown in your vehicle handbook, or just ask NLM Auto Services, your tyre dealer.
ALIGNMENT
More than likely, you've just had
your wheels aligned when your new set of tyres went on.
While
it's not something that needs doing often, the driver is
in the best position to monitor proper wheel alignment.
At the first sign of irregular wear, or if there is a
noticeable change in
steering
response or control have your wheel alignment checked. It will pay off in
increased mileage and performance.
BALANCE
Your wheels, with their new set of tyres, have most likely just been
balanced. In fact, any time a tyre is demounted and replaced, when a balance
weight is moved or removed or when you purchase a new set of tyres, the wheels
should be balanced. It's also important to check your wheel balance if you
detect vibration or uneven tyre wear. Properly balanced
wheels will give you longer life and better
performance.
WEAR
Tyre wear can tell you a lot about how well your tyres are
inflated and your wheels aligned
and balanced. Have a look at the diagrams, and keep them handy when checking
your tyres.
